The PDC World Series of Darts event in Perth kicked off with the first round as eight top PDC stars took on eight Oceanic representatives, and it was Perth's Anderson who caused a shock against Bunting.

Anderson - whose emergence has seen him qualify recently for the World Matchplay in Blackpool to follow up three World Championship appearances - started strongly as he raced into a 3-0 lead against the English ace.

Bunting responded superbly, taking five of the next seven legs to force a decider, but paid for missing one match dart to complete a stunning comeback as Anderson held his nerve to take out double 15 and set up a quarter-final against defending Perth Darts Masters champion Phil Taylor on Saturday.

“I’ve been here for three weeks now and I feel really settled," said Anderson, who has been based mainly in the UK while competing on the PDC circuit since winning a Tour Card 18 months ago.

"It’s great to be playing in front of my friends and family again. The guys are going to have to be careful because they are on my turf now!”

Taylor began the defence of his title with a 6-1 victory against New Zealand’s Craig Caldwell, despite having suffered from illness in the build-up to the event after arriving in Australia.

The Stoke great, who turned 55 on Thursday, landed back-to-back 14-darters as he moved 3-0 up before taking out 130 on the bull for a 12-darter to lead by four legs.

He also kicked off the fifth with two 180s, but after missing out on a possible nine-darter he went on to lose the leg as Caldwell posted double eight.

"I want to do a lot better tomorrow but I did enough tonight. I feel great, I've got a feeling that I can win this tournament but there are a lot more games to do and I'll have to improve."

Van Gerwen will now face fellow Dutchman Raymond van Barneveld in the quarter-finals, after the five-time World Champion produced a fine display to defeat Australian favourite Simon Whitlock 6-3 with a 102.96 average.

Van Barneveld landed two maximums and a 106 checkout during the high-quality encounter, before securing the win with a 13-darter.

The Boathouse pool is still fishing really well with most of the fish coming to either dry flies or lures such as Yellow Dancers and Hothead Damsels. The biggest fish from the pond at 10lb 12oz was caught by C. Walker on a black lure. Other notable catches were the Deed Ferret group with 12 fishes for 46lb with the largest a 9lb 8oz rainbow. The Fishing Inc group took 12 fish for 41lb with the largest at 6lb.

The Burnside pool has been very changeable and the fish have been moving around a lot, one minute they are on the surface taking dries the next they are 10 feet down wanting to chase lures so it has paid to be mobile and change tactics. Floating Fry has been taking a lot of fish as well as Sedges and Shipman’s. Top lures are Damsels, Orange Blobs and Black and Green Fritz. On the Bankside most fish are still sat in the first bay down to the dam wall. Again the Floating Fry has been the best fly. Other fry patterns doing well are Pearly Pheasant Tails, Mini Cats and Yellow Dancers. Mr Birse returned 23 in three visits on fry patterns and Mr. Forbes had the biggest fish on the complex this week with a 11lb 12oz rainbow taken on a Yellow Dancer.

There are a lot of fish being caught on the Woodside but it has been very noticeable when the fish are feeding and when they are not. Power bait is still the best bait fished fairly deep down but other baits are working as well. Over the weekend 58 anglers landed 91 fish for 152lb.

Swanswater Fishery, Stirlingshire

The fishing conditions continue to be pretty good for the time of year with water temperature sitting 12-13C and great water clarity. A lot of fish are showing on the surface but most are taking just under. The fishing was at its best when the breeze was coming out of the west with things a little harder when the wind moved round to the east. At the weekend anglers were seeing loads of fish cruising round, but tempting them out was a bit harder. Big fish are still being seen, and caught, with some cracking tigers still in the area around the burn mouth. Favorite patterns included Sedge, Hopper, Daddy Longlegs, Bibio, Snatcher, Kate McLaren, plus the usual lures and Buzzers. "I just wanted to play well against Adie and I think I out-played him most of the game. I wasn't nervous - it was an unbelievable buzz on stage and I just can't wait to do it again."
 
Friday's quarter-final with Price will be the longest format he has played at the best of 31 legs, but having claimed 6 Inch DTH Hammer many top scalps on the circuit the Welshman is full of confidence after his 13-10 win over Lewis.
 
"I've done it on the ProTour," he adds. "I know it's a different format, more of a sprint than a marathon, but I know I've got the game in me and it's just whether you pull it out of the bag.
 
"I didn't really know if I could go this far over these many legs, but I've shown that I can.
 
"I think can go all the way and I can be on the stage with the big boys, if I can score like I can and check out like I think I can - if I didn't believe in that it's pointless even being here."
 
Price was defeated by Wright on his World Championship debut in December, but believes that he is a better player seven months on from that Alexandra Palace debut.
 
"Peter beat me at the World Championship but I didn't take my chances so maybe it's my turn now," he said.
 
"In the first two rounds I took my chances and I backed it up against Adrian with my scoring. Hopefully I can do that against Peter as well and get my own back."
 
Price will continue his progression towards the world's top 32 with his run in the World Matchplay, and is aiming to make his mark dart's biggest names over the next few years.
 
"I never thought in a million years that I'd be here," he admits. "I always thought that I'd be going away playing rugby, but I've turned now to a new career.
 
"I sort of messed my rugby career up but this is my second chance and I'm not letting this one go."
